MY DAILY CALENDAR…DAY 287 – OCTOBER 14, 2013
MY DAILY CALENDAR FOR MONDAY, DAY 287 OF 2013: Well, it’s Thanksgiving Day up in Canada and here in the down under we’re celebrating Columbus Day which is a Federal Holiday. Though I have no idea how you can have a Federal Holiday when the Federal Government is all shutdown. So far, the only thing the Congressional inaction has achieved is supplying fodder for TV comedians’ monologues! Hey, I’ve got an idea! Let’s all write You’re FIRED on a pink post-it and send it to each of our representatives in Congress.
It’s a Japanese noshi, which is a kind of ceremonial origami fold that is attached to gifts to express “good wishes.” (Originally, a strip of dried meat or abalone was supposedly inserting into the folded paper.) Personally, I draw the line at the dried meat and fish insert, but the folded noshi itself is a neat way to decorate your gift boxes.
And they’re really easy to make. I printed a sheet of computer paper on both sides to make the one on the above package. The photo is one I took at the Missouri Botanical Garden this spring when the camelias were blooming.
Feel free to read my palm providing the reading is favorable.
