MY DAILY CALENDAR…DAY 295 – OCTOBER 22, 2013

MY DAILY CALENDAR FOR TUESDAY, DAY 295 OF 2013: Talk about a gloomy fall morning … from overcast skies …DSC07955

To leaf strewn lawns …DSC07950

It was a day that inspired you to go back inside and jump back under the covers.  Even the sight of what will probably be the last rose of summer …DSC07956

Didn’t bring cheer to a gloom and doom day!

So I went inside and made a batch of backing powder biscuits from scratch.DSC07947

Check out how flakey they were!DSC07948

They were perfect topped with a bit of butter and a lot of apple butter and hot fragrant pumpkin spice coffee on the side. It was a creature comfort morning. And Mlle. Renee agreed!  She usually likes her biscuit with a bit of butter, but today she even had to sample the apple butter.

And I also used the leftover biscuit dough to make a tray of cinnamon swirls.DSC07949

You just roll the leftover biscuit dough to a thin rectangle  Spread with a thin coat of butter and sprinkle with raw sugar and cinnamon. And bake!

sugar  I’ve been using raw sugar rather than refined sugar because it not only tastes better, it photographs better, too.

TODAY’S ORIGAMI CHALLENGE –  MONTROLL’S FISH:DSC07960

Gee, a hearty biscuit breakfast even made folding paper fish easier.DSC07961

Now, if I can only figure out …

  1. MENSA PUZZLE ANSWER:
WIN or LOSE … it’s how you play the game. WIN should be in all the words in the first column (headWINd and LOSE in all the second (cLOSEup).

  2. Cinnamon and fish. Not something I’d think of together, but they work in this post! And I want to eat those cinnamon swirls. (But not the fish.)
