MY DAILY CALENDAR – DAY 315 – NOVEMBER 11, 2013

MY DAILY CALENDAR FOR MONDAY, DAY 315 OF 2013: 50 years ago today, I was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas as a food inspector with the United States Army Veterinary Corps.Veterans007And this was the building where I lived, the office I worked out of and also the home for lost or quarantined animals of many species. The building date back to the days when Custer took his last ride to the Little Big Horn. (It has long been rumored that the building is haunted by the spirit remains of him and his horse. I never saw anything ghostly though.)  And outside of basic training, I never fired a weapon during my entire military career. My job was to insure that the food that the food the troops ate was not only safe, but the best that money could buy. If it wasn’t, it didn’t get unloaded from the delivery trucks or trains. I was never wounded by enemy fire, but I was attacked and viciously bitten by mad cocker spaniel that belonged to the wife of one of the commanding officers. The dog was but on house arrest for a 14-day quarantine period and I was taken to Irwin Army Hospital for treatment and a shot in the ass. I was not quarantined, but I did have to listen to that dog howl every night for 14 days. And that was how I served my country.veterans001_2

TODAY IS VETERANS DAY … SALUTE SOMEONE YOU KNOW WHO SERVED HIS OR HER COUNTRY FOR YOU!

TODAY’S ORIGAMI CHALLENGE – NEWSPAPER BOAT: Since I cancelled my home delivery of the daily newspaper(?) I didn’t have any newspaper to fold. So I used a sheet of printer paper instead.DSC08216

The good thing about it, is that you won’t get any ink rub off from sitting on it.DSC08213

And someone had to get back in the act and take it for a test float.DSC08214
