About Robert Edler

... a somewhat unknown and/or imaginary actor, writer, director, producer, photographer, friend, brother, uncle and all round good fellow that you really should get to know because he lives with that most glamorous fourpaw Mademoiselle Renee. (Mlle. Renee for short)

  1. The second picture of Oscar captures the essence of being a cat. Looks like he was getting some really good sleep. Sweet kitty!

    • Oscar was a weird cat who lived with us seven years. He did not like strangers … which even included my brothers and their families. His family was my mother, Nicky our dog and myself.
Then after six years my mother died, four months later Nicky died.
A couple of months after that I was putting out his cat food when I heard a growl. I turned around and from six feet away he leaped into the air and attached himself to my hand and arm and began biting and clawing me.
I pulled him off and threw him aside. Repeat attack on my leg followed by two more attacks before I was able to get him into the basement.
Then I went to the hospital where I was bandaged up and spent the night on antibiotics. The next afternoon I was released from the hospital with instructions that I was not to enter the house until animal control removed the cat. They actually called the County Health Department before they signed me out. The cat man was waiting for me when I got home.
I let him in and after a brief struggle he emerged with Oscar in a cage. He hissed and growled as he went past me.
The County Health Department said he wasn’t rabid, but he might have been bitten by a spider or had a stroke. I figured he thought I was killing his loved ones and wanted to get to me before I got to him.
Oscar was a good, but quirky cat. But I’m quirky, too. And I prefer to remember him from all the photos for which he was always happy to pose.

  2. Wow! Sounds like Oscar should have gone to kitty heaven with Nicky the dog. Cats can be really weird and who knows what sets them off. Glad you escaped with your life and I guess it was time he used the rest of his lives. Cat bites are very difficult to heal. Lots of germs in their mouth.

  3. My neighbor had a cat bite that involved 3 trips to the doctor, 3 rounds of antibiotics (stronger doses each time) and the cat being put down to make sure no rabies were involved. I saw her wounds and never thought a cat could do such damage.

  4. I’m always sad at the way things ended between you and Oscar, but it’s clear something was seriously wrong with him. I’m glad you have some good photos and good memories, too.
